Golden Boy

Perched atop the copper dome of an impressive beaux-arts building, something extra – a Golden Boy – a figure resembling Roman Mercury, Greek Hermes, messenger of the gods.

Atop the Manitoba Legislative Building on the Canadian Prairies since 1919, the iconic Golden Boy holds a torch in his right hand and a sheaf of wheat in his left. Wikipedia research reveals that this fine fellow, originally bronze, was painted gold in the 1940s and gilded in 1951.  Seeking Eternal Youth, in 2002, he underwent an extra gilding with 23.75 carat gold leaf.
